Assignment #3: Attack of the Clones

Critique: March 16

3 Cloned Images
  • Shoot photographs following directions given in class.
  • Utilizing the skillsets, tools, and filters that you will learn in class, create 3 images in which you clone a single person multiple times.
  • Images should be believable.
    • It should appear that these clones all exist in the same place at the same time.
    • Clones should integrate into the background cleanly
    • Shadows and reflections are important.  Don't ignore them!
    • Correct any color shifts between clones and background.
    • If clones overlap, edges should be clean and feathered.
  • No less than three clones in each image.  You may have more than three if you want.
  • Having your clones interacting in some way is always better than just posing them in front of the camera.
  • AT LEAST ONE IMAGE MUST BE A SELF-PORTRAIT (meaning all of the clones must be YOU)
Posting your work and commenting on the work of others:
  • The finished images (in .jpg format) should be uploaded to your blog BEFORE 9:00 PM TUESDAY, MARCH 15.
  • Write some comments in your post about the assignment and your thoughts on each image you made.
  • Then, AFTER 9:00 PM TUESDAY NIGHT, log into Blogger, go to each of your peers' blogs, check out their images, and leave a comment about their work.
    • What have they done well?
    • What might they have done differently?
    • Are the images believable, or can you see the process?
    • Do shadows and reflections look correct?
    • What do you think of the composition of/interaction between the clones?
    • If you have obligations that interfere with this schedule, let me know IN ADVANCE so that we can make alternative plans.
  • ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 16, we will critique the work in-class.  Come prepared to talk about the work and to offer both praise and constructive criticism.
Here are some good student examples with narratives and clones interacting:

These are still good, but the clones have less interaction than in the images above:

And these aren't necessarily bad, but notice how, without any interactions between the clones, they are less interesting:
