Assignment #3: The Invisibles

Critique: April 10

3 Invisible Person Images
  • Shoot photographs following directions given in class.
  • Utilizing the skillsets, tools, and filters that you will learn in class, build 3 images in which you create a realistic depiction of an invisible person wearing visible clothing.
  • Images should be believable.
    • Cuts should be clean, with no slivers of skin showing.
    • Any clothing or props you have had to reconstruct should be seamlessly integrated.
    • Areas around deleted body parts should be feathered and blended with the background.
    • Make sure to fill in any areas where the viewer should be able to see inside the clothing.
  • You can have more than one model in an image if you like.
  • Having props for your invisible person to interact with (objects the person is carrying, something in the environment the person is using, hats, glasses, jewelry, etc.) will make for a more visually interesting image.
Posting your work and commenting on the work of others:
  • The finished images (in .jpg format) should be uploaded to your blog BEFORE 9:00 PM THURSDAY, APRIL 9.
  • Write some comments in your post about the assignment and your thoughts on each image you made.
  • Then, AT 9:00 PM THURSDAY NIGHT, log into Blogger, go to each of your peers' blogs, check out their images, and leave a comment about their work.
    • What have they done well?
    • What might they have done differently?
    • Are the images believable, or can you see the process?
    • Did the student create an interesting narrative?
    • If you have obligations that interfere with this schedule, let me know IN ADVANCE so that we can make alternative plans.

Assignment #2: Attack of the Clones

Critique: March 20

3 Cloned Images
  • Shoot photographs following directions given in class.
  • Utilizing the skillsets, tools, and filters that you will learn in class, create 3 images in which you clone a single person multiple times.
  • Images should be believable.
    • It should appear that these clones all exist in the same place at the same time.
    • Clones should integrate into the background cleanly
    • Shadows and reflections are important.  Don't ignore them!
    • Correct any color shifts between clones and background.
    • If clones overlap, edges should be clean and feathered.
  • No less than three clones in each image.  You may have more than three if you want.
  • Having your clones interacting in some way is always better than just posing them in front of the camera.
  • AT LEAST ONE IMAGE MUST BE A SELF-PORTRAIT (meaning all of the clones must be YOU)
Posting your work and commenting on the work of others:
  • The finished images (in .jpg format) should be uploaded to your blog BEFORE 9:00 PM THURSDAY, MARCH 19.
  • Write some comments in your post about the assignment and your thoughts on each image you made.
  • Then, AFTER 9:00 PM THURSDAY NIGHT, log into Blogger, go to each of your peers' blogs, check out their images, and leave a comment about their work.
    • What have they done well?
    • What might they have done differently?
    • Are the images believable, or can you see the process?
    • Do shadows and reflections look correct?
    • What do you think of the composition of/interaction between the clones?
    • If you have obligations that interfere with this schedule, let me know IN ADVANCE so that we can make alternative plans.
  • ON FRIDAY, MARCH 20, we will critique the work in-class.  Come prepared to talk about the work and to offer both praise and constructive criticism.
