Downloading & Installing GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) Software

GIMP is the software we will be using in this class.  It is a free, open-source program that is extremely similar to Photoshop in terms of interface, sophistication of the tools, and layering.  It is available on both Windows and Mac. If you are using a Chromebook, you will need the Linux version. There is no mobile version.

1.  On the laptop you will be using for this course, visit www.gimp.org.

2. Click on the "DOWNLOAD 2.10.30" link.

3. This will take you to the download page.  It should look like this:

4. If you are using a Windows laptop, you can go ahead and click on the  "Download GIMP 2.10.30 directly" link. (Don't use the BitTorrent because sometimes Bethel's internet blocks torrents.) Once you have downloaded the install software, open the file and follow all of the on-screen prompts and directions in order to install GIMP. If you are using a Mac, go to Step 5.  If you are using a Chromebook, go to Steps 6 & 7.

5. If you are using a Mac, click the "macOS" link and then click on the "Download GIMP 2.10.30 directly" link.

6. If you are using a Chromebook, click the "GNU Linux" link and then click on the "Install GIMP Flapjack" link.

7. There are additional instructions when you scroll down.  These must be followed in order to install GIMP on your Chromebook.
